Fishing Report Franklin area and new store items and packages.
What a year it has been. We like all of you are ready for 2021. The one thing that has been positive is the excellent fishing in Western North Carolina. The delayed harvest rivers in our area, the Nantahala and the Tuckasegee, are both fishing exceptionally well. The Tuckasegee has been difficult for the waders due to high water levels and flow rates. The flow rates have slowed allowing river access. Be sure to check the flows before venturing out. The risk is not worth the reward.
What to use. Time to downsize your flies. Simple flies have been working great. For those nymphing, get to the bottom and make a good presentation. Keep steady with the flow. Many of the bites are subtle so look for any changes in your indicator or line. When in doubt set. For those dry flying, there has been a blue wing olive hatch most afternoons on the Nantahala. Before hopping in the water, take a few minutes to observe the water and look for rising fish.
Back to the shop. We have some great Christmas gifts at special prices. We have several standard and EURO packages, complete set up, rods, reels, line, and flies for less than $400 with several of the ECHO packages less than $200.
We recently received a long awaited shipment of Fishpond packs, RIO Lines and Adams Built waders, boots and nets. Plenty of other gifts less than $20.00. A great time to stock up on Trouthunter and Umpqua tippet and leader.
We have discounted our private water guided trips. If you want a fish of a lifetime now is the time. The fishing has been great with many fish over 24" with an opportunity for the 28 to 30" trout. Checkout our Facebook for recent photos.
